This is our first time celebrating the holidays in Fort Myers. For Thanksgiving, we were fortunate that our two youngest sons were able to get the time off work and come down for a visit. Knowing we would be all alone for Christmas this year made me a little sad, so I made sure to soak in all the family time I could. We took advantage of their company by kickstarting the holiday spirit and it turned out to be one of my favorite Thanksgiving holidays ever.
We played bean bag toss and went for ice cream.
The weather was incredible so we spent most of the time outside. We went to the pool and watched movies under our tiki hut. And we laughed. That’s always the best part. Just connecting with them, if even for a short visit.
I was surprised to learn that both the kids came prepared with their Christmas Vacation t-shirts — the shirts we always wear during our annual Christmas Eve “junky dinner” celebration. It was such a thoughtful thing to do since we won’t be together this year.
We created some Christmas memories with a visit to the Holiday Nights at the Edison and Ford Estates in Fort Myers. The 46th annual holiday lights display did not disappoint. Thousands of Christmas lights and decorations covered the estates. It was the perfect start to the holiday season!
