Lucky Ducks in Memphis

After a fairly uneventful four-hour drive from Nashville, we arrived at EZ Daze RV Park in Mississippi on June 8. The park itself is pretty unremarkable, as far as amenities go, but it was an easy pull-through site and that made for a quick setup on a VERY hot and humid afternoon.

The one (and only) thing we put on our must-see list when we booked this Memphis-area stop was to see the Peabody ducks. Yes, I realize the “home of the blues and the birthplace of rock ‘n roll” offers many other iconic must-visit tourist attractions, but once I heard about these legendary ducks, I as we’ve been to Memphis before, the ducks seemed like a most intriguing must-see.

If you’ve never heard of the Peabody ducks, here’s the scoop: Every morning at 11 am, the ducks leave their penthouse “Duck Palace” and take the elevator down a dozen floors and waddle out onto the red carpet that leads them from the elevator and into the travertine fountain in the lobby. The ducks swim around in the fountain until 5 pm when they repeat the march back to the elevator and up to their rooftop accommodations.

On the weekend, guests can sip cocktails and watch the ducks at sunset at the pop-up bar set up on the rooftop of the hotel. Great views of the city from up there.
