We typically leave Fort Myers by the end of April, but with the price of diesel continuing to rise, we cut 2,000 miles off our summer road trip this year. That pushed our departure date to May 31, and what a difference a month makes. It is hot, hot, hot here in this part of Florida and we are more than ready to depart the state tomorrow morning on our 6,000-mile journey in our motorhome.
On our RV lot in Fort Myers, we have a 10 x 12 fully finished shed. This little shed has been such an amazing investment for us for so many reasons. It’s a great place for me to make art, sit and read, or work. It is also set up to accommodate guests — with a full bath and enough room to set up a blow-up Queen-sized mattress, it’s comfortable enough for a few nights’ visit. We added a mini-split unit to keep the room at a comfortable temperature any time of the year, making it a great multi-functional space for us.
Packing Up
When it’s time for us to pack up and hit the road, we have to put away all of our outdoor furniture and decor, etc. that have under our tiki hut. This includes a large L-shaped sofa, a large round fire table, a solid wood bistro table, and a bunch of odds and ends.
This is when the “shed” transforms into a storage unit. It’s hard to believe we can fit all of our outdoor furniture into the shed, but with a little creative planning, it’s amazing how well we can make it work. Couch cushions are stacked to the ceiling in the bathroom. The outdoor TV is tucked against the wall, padded by throw pillows. The breakable decor is safely tucked inside small trash cans and tables are stacked on top of each other. It’s like a game of Jenga in there!.
With the furniture stored away for the summer, the only thing we have left to do tomorrow morning is secure everything inside, put the houseplants in the shower, bring in the slides, hook up the jeep and we’re off for another adventure.
Love this!! Can’t wait to continue to see y’all’s adventures ❤️ Safe travels 🙋♀️
