It’s probably not wise to plan a trip through Atlanta in the RV after being comfortably parked for 8 months. I hate traffic. I especially hate Atlanta traffic. It’s crazy stressful. So many delays. So much traffic. Not fun.
I hate being in a car and being in crazy traffic, but lulled into the romance of this 6000+-mile journey we’re on, I forgot how stressful it can be driving through Atlanta in a 45-foot motorhome. I was not comfortable with this journey and we had only just begun.
There was a point, maybe 2 hours in, when I was tempted to pop open the bottle of Trazadone we give Copper for his anxiety and down a couple of pills just to get through the morning. Not that the drugs appear to have helped his anxiety much. Both dogs cuddled together at the start of our drive– which, if you know my dogs, you know is not right. They. Don’t. Cuddle.
And of course, this picture below tells the whole story. Traffic as far as the eyes can see. In all directions. When we weren’t white-knuckling it through a gaggle of cars and trucks hell-bent on running us off the road, we were creeping along at a snail’s pace. So slow, in fact, that Dave was actually able to get up and make himself a sandwich.
Truly, a day and a half in, and if someone had walked up to our rig and offered to buy it from us right then, it would have been a done deal.
We made it through to our overnight stop in Adairsville, GA, and the next day was another stressful travel day as we drove through Nashville to Antioch, TN. The common theme here is that big city traffic and big RVs are not fun.
We arrived at Four Corners RV near Nashville in good time–even with more than an hour of traffic delays–and were really pleased with our decision to stay here. The park is located right on beautiful Percy Priest lake. There is a cute little beach and swim area, as well as courtesy docks for jet skis. There are even little floating cottages you can rent. The sites are level concrete pads and spaced a really good distance apart. You would be surprised how much just seeing a level concrete pad when you pull into a site can totally make your day when you’re RV-ing.
This is our first time at this RV park and it is one I would highly recommend. And if you can get here without going through Atlanta or Nashville, all the better.
